Fort Bend Sheriff

Troy E. NehlsTroy E. Nehls was elected to become the next Fort Bend County Sheriff in 2012. Prior to his election as Sheriff, he served two terms as the elected Constable of Fort Bend County Precinct 4. He has over 24 years of law enforcement and began his career in his home State of Wisconsin. Nehls moved to Fort Bend County in 1994 and began his service in Texas with the Richmond Police Department. He comes from a family of law enforcement with his father and two brothers also serving. In fact, his twin brother, Trever, currently holds the Constable position Sheriff Nehls once held.

Sheriff Nehls proudly volunteers for many local groups around Fort Bend County. He is the Chairman of “Fort Bend Salutes America” Memorial Day ceremony, a life member and former Commander of VFW Post 3903 in Rosenberg, member of the Sugar Land Exchange Club, to name a few. Nehls served in the U. S Army Reserve for 21 years and retired with the rank of Major. During his time in the military he was deployed to Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan and is the recipient of two Bronze Star medals.

Nehls has a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston – Downtown. He resides outside of Richmond with his wife, Jill, and daughters, Jenna, Cambry, and Tori.
